Very nicely written, Munzly. There is enough description in there to paint the necessary mental pictures but not so much as to slow down the story.

Well no, I didn't give it up, I applied a bowstring principal with the book as the bow, the bulldog clips acting as bow-tips and a length of twine joining them across the spine of the book, this can then be flexed open and dropped down over the lectern with the string across behind.
It now works fine without balls. :)
